"Nothing is far away from you on your holiday"

Downtown Hotel in Soufrière was a very pleasant experience. I will never forget the scenery from my balcony to the Caribbean Sea and to Petit Piton. The rooms are spacious, clean and the air conditioning effective. You can even cook your own breakfast in them. Moreover, the staff is professional, well informed and very helpful. It is also good that Downtown Hotel is right in the centre. Nothing is far away from you on your holiday.

"English comfort and tropical climate"

I travelled to Saint Lucia with my husband and two teenagers. I had planned a 5 days stay in Soufrière, at the Downtown hotel, expecting more pleasure from the town and the outskirt than from the hotel itself. I was not disappointed by the place. As to the hotel, it far exceded my expectations. It is indeed at the same time a place for rest and a place for contact with the inhabitants. It is very conveniently situated for people who like walking and prefer to avoid car or bus rides : not far from the humming bird beach where my children enjoyed scuba diving, not far from Malgretout where my husband and I enjoyed bathing, not far from Botanical gardens where we all enjoyed walking among flowers and going for a paddle in the King's baths, and within walking distance from Sulphur Springs where we enjoyed everything. It is at the same time right at the center of the town, just opposite the church, in the liveliest part of the place. There are shops in the building where people from Soufrière come shopping, there are fruit sellers all around, a very good bakery, and so on, all that makes you feel you are spending some time in a real town and not in an artificial place with only tourists around you. As for the rooms... I still miss the true english comfort of those large rooms, with their king size beds, their roomy cupboard and chests of drawers, their big green armchairs, their pleasant aspect, with nothing showy... We had rooms with a view on the church square and it has been a real pleasure for us to be able to feel we were right inside the town when we sat on the balcony and far from the town each time we chose to shut ourselves behind the windows. I hope we can come back to Saint-Lucia, to Soufrière and the Downtown hotel, and meet again all the charming people we have met last july.

"Convenient location with local interaction; excellent Petit Piton view"

The staff was very helpful and assisted with all our needs and requests. The facility was clean and comfortable and a good value. We enjoy the local experience and interaction--this is a good place for food shopping and native restaurants, don't hesitate to ask locals for help. Everything is convenient to The Downtown Hotel. Snorkeling, beach time, siteseeing, and just relaxing. The view from the seaside rooms is superb and landside rooms afford opportunities to observe locals going about their daily business. Hotel parking is safe and handy--but if you prefer the native taxi is across the street and cheap. This is an excellent option for those who prefer something other than resort living.

"Modest and very charming!!"

A few weeks ago came back from Soufriere, Saint Lucia, where I spent a wonderful week!! I went to the Island by myself; I enjoy tremendously going to different countries and discovering new cultures.

I had no idea where I was going as far as what the Island looked like, I knew the location of the city; I knew it was in the South of the Island, but that’s it, I prepared the trip in less than 24 hours.

Since my arrival to the Island I can only, but praise the Island and Saint Lucians! My experience was wonderful. The hotel staff was very helpful as far as answering questions, where to go to do this, to buy this, to see that, etc. The room was very clean; the view was into Soufriere downtown, I was able to enjoy the local businesses, everyday life: what an experience! Soufriere is a very tranquil place where everybody knows each other, therefore is very easy to meet people and to get into the real culture, everybody is super friendly, they are proud of their country and want to make people as comfortable as possible.

I was traveling with a small budget, and I was able to enjoy and experience everything and probably more than people who had a larger wallet. The location was exceptional, and the staff made you feel like home, security was there at all times, it just up to me to enjoy Soufriere and Saint Lucia!

I would recommend this Island, this city and, of course, this hotel to anybody who enjoys traveling and discovering new things!

"Great place to stay if you want to find out about the life outside the Resorts"

I went to Saint-Lucia alone for diving mostly, on a tight budget. I found this hotel to be just what I needed. Don't get confused with the resorts kind of travel, this hotel brings you closer to what the real life in this part of the world actualy is. The staff of the hotel is really helpful and always there if you need anything or have questions. I would suggest this hotel for travelers or tourists tired of the fake athmosphere of the resorts. Soufriere is a place worth seeing for those looking for authenticity.

"I loved the Downtown Hotel"

This is a great place to stay. I did my research and it seems like the most economical place in Soufrier (maybe even the island). The view (we had ocean side) was amazing. We would sit on the deck and watch the boats come and go, the people about their day and the Pitons. When the deck doors are closed you can't hear a thinh that is happening outside (very quiet). We had a microwave/convection oven, fridge, kettle, plates, etc. Eating out in St. Lucia is very expensive so we were overjoyed to have these facilities. We could sit on the deck watching the sunset, having a cold beer and a sandwich. The staff at the hotel are extremely helpful and you are greeted with a smile as you come and go. We had friends with us that stayed at a more expensive hotel but often came to hang out with us in our light breezy room.

"Very good budget choice"

We stayed for 5 nights at this hotel and it was perfect for us. We were a party of three , my wife and I plus a relative. We took the "royal suite" which had a living room, and two bedrooms, each with its own bathroom. All for ~ $150 including tax. The rooms were spotlessly clean, and the staff excellent, helpful, friendly. If you are afraid of a colorful, slightly seedy downtown location with occasional beggars (but very friendly local folks) this may not be for you. But if you are like us, and want to experience the local flavor, the location is superb. Soufriere is the most scenic town in St Lucia. Great views from the balcony, view of the pitons from the dock 3 minutes walk away. Supermarkets very close. Our suite had microwave and coffee maker. Two very good snorkeling spots with calm beaches a short boat ride away (Jalousie under the Petit Piton, and Anse Chastanet in the opposite direction). Charlma of the staff can arrange the boat for you. She also arranged a full day taxi tour of the island with Marcus. A note about Marcus. He is the one to pick you up at the airport, if you arranged this with the hotel. He is a great local character, who knows and loves his island. If he warms up to you he will give you service beyond what was agreed for a tour. He took us extra time on little side roads, showing us the life of the locals. We had a great time in St Lucia on a budget.

"Great Place to stay, especially on a budget"

My mother and I stayed at the Downtown Hotel on March 28 2009 - we were booked for Sailing Trip the next day on the Caledonian. The Hotel was very clean and the decor included marbled floors and quaint Spanish Balconies overlooking the harbour. The staff was friendly and very accomodating. Better yet, the price was right and you can get an excellent meal just a block away at the "Pirates Cove," masters extrordinaire at making delicious nutmeg rum punch!

While Soufriere itself is a bit wild, for those seeking something off the beaten path, this is the place to stay. FYI - The locals tend to be a bit rowdy... so even though the rooms are high off the streets and security personnel guard the doors at all times, we suggest you request a room with a harbour view, especially if you're staying on a Saturday night!

"Very affordable place in beautiful paradise"

Good location near the beach. Security guard at night making you feel safe. Very affordable and perfect for budget travelers. The best part about this hotel is the people who work there. The front desk lady (Charma) was so accomodating when switching our mini-fridge that was not working properly, providing us with maps/directions/restaurant suggestions etc and arranging transportation with the driver (Marcus). These two went out of their way to make our trip extra special and enjoyable. Can’t thank them enough for being so warm, friendly and kind to their guests - they treated us like their old friends. We’ll absolutely return!!

"Good value and location"

The Downtown Hotel is at its name suggests, smack in the middle of the small seaside town of Soufriere on the main road south from Catries. Rooms facing the Pitons on the top floor are excellent and also afford good views of the waterfornt and quayside activity. I found the hotel to be clean, well-appointed and the front desk astaff extremely helpful and welcoming. Price-value ratio would be hard to beat.
